At first glance, I was intrigued by this book because of the painting Christ Victorious. However, when I was reading the preface, I was caught off guard by his statement and how he would be writing and reviewing the last words of Jesus Christ. In the foreword, he mentions that while he is an Episcopalian, he does not view Jesus as the end of all means and the only path to salvation. He also claims that, through his writing, he does not expect to bring anyone the Christian tradition.

So through this, I find it hard to read through the rest of the book because while he can make some good points regarding charity when speaking on the last seven words of Christ on the cross, I believe that it is necessary to have a firm foundation in the faith of Christ to be able to understand and explain the words which have so much theological depth.
